Educational Trolling

Educational Trolling

Oh, I see what you did there!

If there is one place in the media world that an individual can turn to for something fairly honest, informative and actually educational, it is going to be one of several channels dedicated to higher learning. That and the red necks luv watch'n dem crazy meercat critters.  Which is all good because at the very least, they are learning “something” even if they don't realize it. Yet every once in a while, they are allowed to throw a curve ball and give the educated a reprieve from reality, and give the intellectually challenged one hell of a trolling. We're not so much talking the now oh-so-famous “aliens” line born from the History Channel. No, we are talking about something with slightly more class: Discovery. Recently they released a fictional documentary surrounding  supposed evidence about mermaids, played out more or less like any other show they have.  This was not the first time they have done as such. They had a special about dragons a few years ago. Again done in a realistic “educational documentary” style, which actually led many to believe that the show was completely legit.

To them I say Bravo! They don't do it often, and when they do, it's well enough to fool the fools. Well played. For the record, no I did not fall for the mermaid one. The dragon one, however? Totally real. There is no reason anyone would willingly do a fake documentary about Swiss scientists. Those are bad ratings. Besides, everyone knows dragons will return, we just need to find their eggs and hatch them in fire before making a bid for the throne!
